Chris joined the U.S. Army in 1992 and served 5 years as a Military Police Officer stationed in California, Germany, and Bosnia. He finished his military career as a Sergeant and received numerous medals and citations, including one for saving a drowning victim during basic training. After being honorably discharged, Chris joined the Dallas Police Department in 1998 and served 25 years, starting as a Patrol Officer in Southwest Dallas, a member of the Drug Response Team (later SRT), and Deployment team. When the South-Central Station was opened, Chris became a Detective and served there for the remaining 15 years of his service, honorably retiring in 2023. He retired with 58 commendations, a certificate of merit for investigation and a Master Police Officer certification. Chris continues to serve as a board member for the Fraternal Order of Police North Texas Chapter. He also serves as a Security Director for Harvest Hill Church in Midlothian, where he has been a member for 20 years.
When Chris first started out in Dallas, an academy classmate convinced him to sign up for the city 457 and 401k plans, which he was very grateful for. A lot of other officers didn’t worry about it because of the mentality of “we have a pension and a drop plan that would take care of us.” The drop plan sounded too good to be true to Chris, with some officers retiring with over a million dollars in their plan. Well, come to find out it, was too good to be true and major changes to the pension occurred with increased contributions and reduced benefits to make up for the losses. A lot of officers became very upset, especially the ones that relied on our pension as their only source of retirement. This sparked Chris’s interest in how some like this could have happened and how it could have been prevented. He developed a passion for helping his fellow first responders gain financial independence and diversification, so they wouldn’t have all their eggs in one basket. From this he was led to serve as a financial advisor where his journey eventually led him to the work being done at FinancialCop. He was honored to join FinancialCop as a financial advisor, allowing him to serve his brothers and sisters by teaming up with other like-minded advisors that put our clients first!
Chris holds a series 7 and series 66 certification as well as an insurance license. He is also a graduate of Dave Ramseys Financial Peace University class. He has been happily married to his wife Chrystal, who is a nurse, for over 33 years. They have three sons and four grandchildren, so far!
